Painting Works

Due to the characteristics of the materials used in the construction of the ships, the conditions in which they are located and working, both the ships and their equipment are very susceptible to wear, tear and especially corrosion. Before painting, repair, blasting and sandblasting work is carried out and the surface of the ship should be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dust and oil, and it is essential to have a protective layer to prevent metal surfaces from coming into contact with air.

Scraping is done to remove superficial protrusions and scratches to ensure that the surface is smooth. Milling, turning and planing, protrusions and scratches on the surface can be prominent. Unless such undesirable situations are eliminated, it is not possible for the quality of the processes to be applied to the surfaces. If these materials are not completely cleaned, they prevent the paint from adhering and the paint may spill later, thus causing rusting. Scraping is also applied to prevent paint spillage. Before the ship painting process is carried out, the drying times of the paints should be considered.

The drying times of the paints can be found on the products or information cards. Drying time should be taken into account when painting. During the paint application, atmospheric condition planning should also be done. In other words, if it is done outdoors, it must have knowledge of the weather. Surface preparation should be done before painting. First of all, attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the oil and fuel on the surface. The surface with fuel or oil must be thoroughly cleaned. Detergent or thinner can be used for cleaning. This process should then be scraped off.

The scraper is the process of completely removing nicks, nicks, scratches and dirt from the surface to be painted. All foreign substances on the surface should be removed from the surface. Then the dust on the surface to be painted should be cleaned by sweeping or air retention. The surface should then be washed again. The rust and dust-free surface can then start painting. When the air temperature is between 10 and 30 degrees, it is recommended to paint. Make sure the paint area is completely dry. If the second coat is to be applied, the dust adhering to the surface must be cleaned.
